Ever get the crazy thought in your mind that you would like to be the guy or gal wearing the stripes? Do you love the sport, skating, being on the ice, working as part of a team, and having a front row seat for a hockey game? Well guess what, you are not alone!
While the pressures of reffing hockey games can be high, there are many positives as well! Not only do you get to continue watching the game we all love, you get a new perspective on it also. You will never see the game the same again once you see it through the eyes of a referee! Not to mention you get a good workout, you earn some money, and you get to be a part of a great family. The DBOA family is a fun group to be around, and we will help you get you to where you want to be with your officiating! At the very least, you will get some great life lessons out of it. There is no better place to hone your conflict resolution and quick decision making skills!
If you are interested in joining the DBOA as a brand new official, you must contact us for a tryout before registering to take a clinic. Taking a clinic does not guarantee you acceptance into our District. Since we have over 60 applicants trying to get in on 15 or so spots every year, tryouts are needed to ensure we get the right officials in our group. This doesn’t mean because you can’t skate like a AAA player you won’t get picked. We look for everything from commitment, rule knowledge, personality, and effort. We want good people above everything else.
If you are still interested in trying out for a position in our District, please fill out the form below. Our Director of Mentorship will then contact you with an application, and let you know about the important dates for tryouts. Should you get accepted into our District, you will be moved into the Mentorship Program.
